This visa allows you to:

  • Participate in workplace-based training to improve your skills in your current occupation, field of expertise, or area of tertiary study.
  • Join a professional development training program in Australia.

Note: This visa is not suitable for individuals whose primary intention is to work.

Temporary Activity Visa (Subclass 408)

This visa permits temporary stays in Australia for purposes such as:

  • Working as a performer in the entertainment industry.
  • Engaging in activities at the invitation of an Australian organization.
  • Participating in or observing an Australian research project.
  • Working in a skilled role through a staff exchange arrangement.
  • Competing in high-level sports competitions or joining sports training programs.
  • Participating in approved special programs.
  • Performing full-time religious work.
  • Working as a superyacht crew member.
  • Conducting full-time domestic work for certain senior foreign executives.
  • Participating in a government-endorsed event.
Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) Visa (Subclass 400)

This visa is for individuals who intend to:

  • Carry out short-term, highly specialized, non-ongoing work in Australia.
  • In some cases, engage in work or activities that are in Australia’s national interest.

The allowed stay is typically up to three months, though a stay of up to six months may be considered in exceptional cases with a strong business justification.

Temporary Work (International Relations) Visa (Subclass 403)

This visa allows temporary entry into Australia for:

  • Activities related to a bilateral agreement (Government Agreement stream).
  • Representing a foreign government or teaching a foreign language at an Australian school (Foreign Government Agency stream).
  • Providing domestic work for diplomats (Domestic Worker stream).
  • Individuals with statutory privileges and immunities (Privileges and Immunities stream).
  • Participation in the Seasonal Worker Program (Seasonal Worker Program stream).
402 Visa (Closed)

This visa is no longer open for new applications. It was intended for individuals coming to Australia to:

  • Undertake occupational training.
  • Conduct or observe research as a visiting academic.
  • Participate in a professional development program.
