International Relations Visa (Subclass 403)

Features

The Temporary Work (International Relations) visa (subclass 403) allows you to come to Australia for a limited period for the following purposes:

  • Under a bilateral agreement (Government Agreement stream)
  • To represent a foreign government or teach a foreign language at an Australian school (Foreign Government Agency stream)
  • To perform domestic work for a diplomat (Domestic Worker stream)
  • As a person entitled to statutory privileges and immunities (Privileges and Immunities stream)
  • To participate in the Seasonal Worker Program (Seasonal Worker Program stream)

You may be eligible for this visa if you meet the specific conditions of one of the streams.

About this Visa

The Temporary Work (International Relations) visa (subclass 403) allows entry into Australia under one of five streams:

  • Government Agreement stream: Enter Australia under the terms of a bilateral agreement between the Australian government (or a state/territory government) and another country’s government.
  • Foreign Government Agency stream: For representatives of foreign governments who will not receive official status from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) or for those employed by a foreign government to teach a foreign language in an Australian school.
  • Domestic Worker (Diplomatic or Consular) stream: Allows you to work as a domestic worker for someone holding a Diplomatic (Temporary) visa (subclass 995).
  • Privileges and Immunities stream: For individuals who have privileges and immunities under the International Organisations (Privileges and Immunities) Act 1963 or the Overseas Missions (Privileges and Immunities) Act 1995.
  • Seasonal Worker Program stream: Participate as a seasonal labourer in specific industries for Australian employers unable to find local workers. To qualify, you must be invited by an approved Temporary Activities sponsor. This program is limited to selected countries.

Application Information

Applying in Australia: If you apply while in Australia, you must remain in Australia until the visa is granted.

Applying outside Australia: If you apply from outside Australia, you must stay outside the country until the visa is approved.

Note: The Seasonal Worker Program stream can only be applied for and granted while outside Australia.
