Points for Specialist Educational Qualifications

For the general skilled migration points test, you can earn 10 points if you meet the criteria for a “specialist educational qualification.”

To qualify, you must have completed one of the following:

  • A Master’s degree by research (not a Master’s by coursework)
  • A Doctoral degree (PhD)

The degree must involve at least 2 academic years of study in Australia and be awarded by an Australian educational institution.

Additionally, the qualification must be in a field specified by the Department of Immigration, which currently includes “STEM” specializations (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
