With this visa, the child can:
- Migrate to Australia as a permanent resident
- Study and access Medicare
- Apply for Australian citizenship if eligible
Eligibility Requirements for the Child:
- Must be a dependent child of an Australian citizen, eligible New Zealand citizen, or holder of an Australian permanent visa
- Must be under 18 years, a full-time student aged 18 to 25, or over 18 and unable to work due to a disability
- Must be single and dependent on the parent
- Must be in Australia when the application is submitted and when the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) makes a decision

Travel Conditions:
- The child can travel to and from Australia as many times as they wish for 5 years from the date the visa is granted, as long as the travel facility remains valid.
- If the child wants to travel after the initial 5-year period, they will need to apply for and be granted a Resident Return (RRV) visa to re-enter Australia as a permanent resident.
- Alternatively, they may consider Australian citizenship, which allows visa-free entry to Australia.

Duration of Stay:
- This is a permanent visa, allowing the child to stay in Australia indefinitely.
- The child becomes a permanent resident the day the visa is granted.
Including Other Children:
- If the child has siblings who also want to apply, submit separate applications for each sibling.
- The child’s dependent children can be included in their application either when applying or before a decision is made.
- Dependent children must meet the health requirements, and other family members who are not migrating may also need to meet these health standards.
Cost:
- The visa costs AUD 3,140 for the main applicant.
- There is an additional charge for each dependent child applying with the main applicant.
- Other costs may include health exams, police certificates, and biometrics.

Application Requirements:
- The child must be in Australia (but not in immigration clearance) when applying and when DHA makes a decision.
- The child cannot apply for this visa if they hold another visa with a “no further stay” condition.
Factors that May Delay Processing:

- Time required to verify the information provided
- Applications cannot be processed if the correct visa application charge is not paid.
Child’s Obligations:
- The child and any dependants must comply with all Australian laws.
Dependent Child Status:
- The child must be dependent on their parent, either as:
- Biological child
- Adopted child
- Stepchild
Adopted Children:
- If adopted after the parent became an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen, the adoption must have occurred through:
- Intercountry adoption with involvement of an Australian state or territory central authority, or
- Intercountry adoption between two countries party to the Hague Convention, or
- Expatriate adoption by an Australian citizen or permanent resident who has lived outside Australia for over 12 months before the adoption was finalized.
Stepchildren:
- Must be under 18 and the child of the parent’s former partner.
- The step-parent must have an Australian parenting order or guardianship of the child.
Sponsorship:
- The child must be sponsored by an eligible parent or the parent’s spouse or de facto partner.
- DHA may not approve sponsorship if the sponsor or their partner has been charged or convicted of offenses involving children.
Age Requirements:
- The child must be:
- Under 18 years old, or
- 18 to 25 years and studying full time, or
- Over 18 and unable to work due to a disability.
If the Child is 18 to 25 and Studying Full-Time:
- The child must be enrolled in a full-time course and financially dependent on the parent.
- They cannot work full-time.
If the Child is Over 18 with a Disability:
- They must have lost some or all of their physical or mental functions, be unable to work full-time, and be financially dependent on the parent.
No Partner Requirement:
- The child must not be married, in a de facto relationship, or engaged to be married.
Health and Character Requirements:
- The child and any dependants must meet the health and character requirements.
Outstanding Debts:
- Any debts to the Australian government must be repaid before the visa is granted.
Australian Values Statement:
- Children aged 18 or older must read or have the Life in Australia booklet explained to them and sign the Australian Values Statement.
Visa Cancellation or Refusal History:
- The child may not be eligible if they’ve had a visa refused or cancelled.
Consent for Minors:
- Children under 18 need written consent from all individuals who have legal rights over where they live, or proof that the laws of their home country allow them to leave.
Best Interests of the Child:
- DHA may refuse the visa if it is not in the best interests of a child under 18.
